As I attempt to open the tremendously heavy front door, the smell of old books and carpet sweeps under my nose and my eyes immediately focus front towards the elevator. To get to the elevator, I have to walk through the lobby. In the lobby, it’s always the same. People making small talk, kids running around through and between peoples legs, a middle aged couple in the sale rack, and people staring at me. I get the “you clearly don’t belong here” look everyday by at least one person in the lobby - no joke. For the most part, it doesn’t bother me.
Once I finally make it to the elevator, I head towards the second floor. When the doors open, I’m completely surrounded by books and a librarian staring at me. She sees me everyday but still stares at me with the same look as the people in the lobby. Then I pass a few study rooms to my left and head towards the computer room.
As I enter the computer room, I gust of heat comes over my body and I immediately begin to sweat. The clicking of the keyboards and the focused silence in the room helps get in the zone and start my work. I stare at a bright computer screen and listen to some music for the next few hours and manage to get all my work done, quickly and effectively.
